Kona the Superhero Guide Dog and Little Giver

Kona The Superhero and Little Giver

A community sculpture campaign with the Southeastern Guide Dogs was unveiled in March 2016, and 50 life size resin dogs were painted and placed throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties.  Kona was painted by my wife, Maryjo and displayed in Kona Grill at the University Town Center Mall in Sarasota.

Kona was painted over several weeks and the design was inspired as a collaborative effort between Maryjo and Kona's sponsor Tommy Przybylski from Kona Grill Sarasota.  The base is a regional reflection of fish found in the Gulf of Mexico and combines the contemporary boldness of Kona Grill.  The dog is painted with various layers of yellow, gold, rust, and brown color.  All of the dogs were displayed in downtown Sarasota on Palm Avenue in early October 2016.

In 2017 Superhero Puppy Edition was added.  Little Giver, sponsored by Golf Coast Community Foundation, was also painted by Maryjo and contains a tropical theme.  Little Giver was unveiled at the Best of Sarasota in April 2017 in Selby Gardens.

Superheroes on Parade is now a part of Sarasota, St. Petersburg, and Tampa with proceeds to benefit Southeastern Guide Dogs!
